The Early, Middle and Late Bronze Ages in Slovenia - the current stance of investigations and issues
(Ältere, mittlere und jüngere Bronzezeit in Slowenien - Forschungsstand und Probleme)

Abstract

The article presents the current stance of investigations and issues concerning the Early, Middle and Late Bronze Ages. Slovenia was, at that time, not a unified cultural region. The Ljubljana culture is known in the west during the Early Bronze Age, it's origins reaching back to the Copper Age. Eastern Slovenia is poorly investigated, only a few select finds of Litzen pottery from this period are known. The Castellieri cultural group resided in the western part of Slovenia (the Karst and Notranjska) during the Middle Bronze Age, while the middle Danubian tumulus cultural group reached all to the eastern part of current day Slovenia. The Virovitica group spread through the Styria region at the end of the Middle Bronze Age and during the Late Bronze Age.
