Izida PAVIĆ:
Die Pfeilerbasilika in Dubrovnik: Spätantiker oder mittelalterlicher Bau?
Abstract
Archaeological excavation undertaken at the sites of the cathedral of Dubrovnik and Bunić's field in 1981-1984 resulted in the discovery of three important structures: a quadrifoliate structure, cemetery, and basilica with columns (pillars). The subject of this article is a critical review of the interpretations published to the present referring to the earliest established strata at the three structures, according to which the structures were classified as medieval (9th cent.). Revisory analysis was undertaken of the typology, function, and particularly dating of the above structures. A context in the period of late antiquity, which according to the author of this text has been shown to be possible for all three cited structures, resulting from the only available method of research - typological analysis, has been confirmed by comparison with other examples from the period of late antiquity.
