L'arte delle situle quarant' anni dopo

Abstract

From the major exhibition in 1961 to the present, many studies have been published about the source and meaning of situla art. In terms of the first problem, the currently predominant idea is of close connections between situla art and Etruscan orientalizing art, while in terms of the meaning of the depicted scenes, the problem still remains open. An analysis is being prepared, which on the basis of new methodology of the "linguistic" type would again address the entire subject from a global perspective. Among new sites on the distribution map of situlae, the new finds from Venice should particularly be noted, which enable new starting points, particularly for studying the role of Padova and its corresponding territory; on the basis of these finds an episode from local history could even be inferred from the original "publication".
