Geological classification of the boundary stone between Aquileia and Emona
Abstract
The Roman boundary stone between Aquileia and Emona, found in the bed of the Ljubljanica River near Bevke, was carved in the Roman quarry of Nabrežina/Aurisina from upper Cretaceous detritogenous echinodermic limestone. The limestone of the boundary stone corresponds to the aurisina granitello type, which even today is quarried in the Nabreina/Aurisina quarries and is composed primarily of remains of echinoderms.
