Prehistoric elevated settlements in the vicinity of Dole pri Litiji
(Vorgeschichtliche Höhensiedlungen in der Umgebung von Dole pri Litiji)

Abstract

The article presents the results of test excavations at six elevated settlements in the vicinity of Dole pri Litiji (Dole near Litija). The field results are presented, along with the finds and the chronological dating of the settlements. Gradišèe pri Hohovici (Gradišèe near Hohovica) belonged to the late Neolithic and the Eneolithic, and Grac pri Tlaki (Grac near Tlaka) to the late Bronze Age. The site of Zagrac nad Vodicami (Zagrac above Vodice) was most probably also inhabited in the late Bronze Age. A more precise dating is not possible because of the modest and non-diagnostic finds. Three settlements were inhabited in the Iron Age: Gradišèe pri Suhadolah (Gradišèe near Suhadole), Špièasti hrib nad Dolami pri Litiji (Špièasti hrib above Dole near Litija) and Kostjavec pri Tihaboju (Kostjavec near Tihaboj). Remains of fortifications were also discovered at all three settlements.
