The fortification St. Helena near Dellach in the Gail valley, Carinthia
(Die Wallanlage St. Helena bei Dellach im Gailtal, Kärnten)

Abstract

This article presents the results of the excavations at St. Helena near Dellach in Gailtal (Austria/Carinthia). The hill of St. Helena is surronded by four mounds. The excavations showed that the hill was fortified in prehistoric, late ancient and mediaeval times. The ceramic finds range from prehistoric to late mediaeval times and proof the significance. The archaeological investigation on the top of the hill near the church of the 12th century brought no further results. In order to enlighten the history of this region further archaeological and historical interpreation has do be done.
