[‘One sees only what one knows.’ The Migration period in textbooks and museums]
Abstract
The last forty years of archaeological research have changed the way we view the Migration Period, Late Antiquity and Early Christianity in Slovenia, Italy, and Austria. Excavations and the processing of finds are costly, yet the results have barely been presented in Austrian textbooks. In museums, available information is often scarce, and in textbooks it is sometimes reduced to clichés. In the future, public relation offices and educational services should be more aware of these problems.
